What is your first Funko collectible, and where do you display it?
My “first” Funko collectible was actually two collectibles: the 2018 Emerald City Comic-Con Exclusive, Pop! Amy Pond from Doctor Who and the Tenth Doctor Pop! from Doctor Who. At the moment, they're both in a box somewhere in my garage, but they have a special place on my desk at home once I get the time to dig them both back up.
Is there a special story or memory behind your first Funko collectible?
I got these collectibles at my first Emerald City Comic-Con in 2018! This was my third-ever Con experience. A friend of mine, Brian Hanzel, told me about the Funko lottery, and I ended up winning it! Not only was this one of my first introductions to Con life, but also Funko as a whole, and I fell entirely in love. I've been collecting Funko Pops! and going to as many conventions as I can. I've even been a vendor at a few.
How does this collectible inspire your work?
Doctor Who was more or less a creative awakening for me after a long time of monotonous, corporate designing. Once I started collecting, my office cubicle soon filled up with so many Pops! that I almost had no space for anything else. If I hadn't found a love for Funko & Cons, I probably wouldn't have gotten into drawing and designing fandom-themed merch as my side gig and wouldn't have gotten as deep into conventions as I am now. Funko helped me expand my connections and make new friends in places I never thought I'd make, and I'm forever grateful for that!
